Onto our second place in Laos – Luang Prabang. We got up early to get the 7-hour minibus to Luang Prabang. Having not pre-booked anywhere, we walked around for a while looking for a hostel when we arrived. We managed to find a really nice guesthouse and after bartering for a while, we got it for 100,000 kip (£7.50) a night, discounted from 150,000 kip.
In the evening, we ate fish and sticky rice at the night market. Then we went to a bar called Utopia to meet Koen who had been on the hiking trip with us in Luang Nam Tha. The bar had a really nice atmosphere and was almost like it was set up under an open yurt. After getting our first round of drinks in, the weather decided to turn and a mini storm came out of no where. The rain and wind caused chaos as the bar was open plan and the curtains (which acted as walls) smashed around which caused glasses and lamps to smash things while other objects fell from the roof, it was chaos. But after about 10 minutes, the storm was over but it left a massive mess in the bar. A lamp had been knocked over and burnt a tourist’s leg and the workers were going mental trying to assist her. She was okay though.
The bar was left without power and with such a mess in front of us, we decided to leave. Then we noticed that the local area was also out of power. Some power lines had been destroyed by the storm and were left just hanging in the street. Luckily, back at our guesthouse, we had electricity.
