Day 175 – Rainy and sleepy day in Melbourne

We had a somewhat disrupted night’s sleep in Melbourne airport. At 6:30 we had enough and thought we might be able to get into the hostel. We jumped on the SkyBus which cost A$17 (didn’t take long for us to realise how expensive Aus was going to be) to the city centre.

We were staying in the Urban Central Backpackers just south of the river in the centre. It was just over a 1km to walk. In a half zombie like state we marched to the hostel to be told under no circumstances we would be able to check in before 2 pm in the afternoon.

However we were able to leave our bags in the store room, and were allowed to have a free breakfast; John was impressed by the all-you-can-eat fake weetabix on offer!

After some food and a drink we headed into Melbourne for a walk around and get our bearings…. in the rain.

We jumped on the free tram which runs in a circle around the CBD (Aussies love to say CBD).

We headed back to the hostel and sat in the bar watching TV for the final few hours. We then finally checked into our dorm, had a shower and then a well deserved afternoon kip.

We ate in the evening in the well equipped, but busy kitchen and had an early night. It’s been a looooonnngg day!
